|
|
I've uploaded a few songs so far and they all sound different than the way they were originally arranged. It seems to be timbre or volume that's off, or both. Timbre typically seems quite a bit more hollow than it sounds on my computer. And volume is sometimes too loud or too soft in places. I've tested my arrangements on another computer that even has an inferior sound card and speakers, and it still sounds relatively close to the way it was intended. Though every time I listen to my uploads on Hamienet the song is a shell of what it's supposed to be. Anyone know why this is? |

Hamienet makes a conversion from midi to mp3 using what it's know as sounfonts. |

Ah, well that explains it. I've read that SoundFont sounds are supposed to sound superior to general MIDI, but that doesn't appear to be the case to my ears from the difference I've heard between my originals and the Hamienet conversion. I usually tweak some technical stuff in my arrangements around considerably to the point that I wonder if that has something to do with it, but hell if I know. Still, thanks for the answer. |

Ive noticed the same problem with a piece I put up. in some cases the sounds are completely changed ( like harp now sounds like a piano. there is a ton of vibrato in the horns. Im guessing there is no way that you can put your own mp3 copy of the song with the midi instead of the one that is made by the site with your midi.
I spent about 3 weeks orchestrating Music of the Night from the full score note for note and the mp3 version on here sounds like a total bag. |

A few rules:
1. Don't use more than 16 channels. If you do, it's not GM anymore.*
2. Don't use CC#68.
2. Leave a setup bar at the beginning.
3. Use a GM System On at 01:01:000
(4. Remove redundant data)
* The MIDI should sound the same when saved as SMF0. |

that would explain why (#1) most of my midi's have about 20 - 30 parts
( the one I uploaded that sounds really strange is orchestrated for piccolo, flute1, flute 2, oboe, clarinet 1, clarinet 2, clarinet 3, bass clarinet, bassoon, Horn 1, Horn 2, Horn 3, Trumpet, Trombone, Harp, Piano, Synth, timpani, Percussion, voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass )
I guess thats what I get for trying to fully orchestrate a piece. |
