I enjoy listening to XG midis, but how come I can't get an XG midi's full capabilities when I play them on my XG softsynth? I'm tired of requesting for XG mp3 recordings. Can anyone help?

You mean the S-YXG50?

Well, it's not the best XG synth, I guess.
But actually it should sound acceptable, especially for a Softsynth...

Have you set the player's output to the right XG synth?
It's the wrench on the left in the XG Player.

Yes, I did. I can only get the full XG sounds when I play my midis through Windows Media Player

Do you have the proper version of the S-YXG50 for your OS?

v3 for Win 95/98
v4 for Win 2k/XP

Vista is not supported. icon_sad.gif

If this problem isn't solved yet, I found another solution.
Yamaha offers a new MidRadio Player as a Windows (even Vista is supported) and a Mac version.
An 11MB(!) XG-Wavetable is included (the S-YXG50 has only 2MB).
There's a rub in it though. The player is in Japanese. But if you find the right button to install (it isn't that hard icon_wink.gif), you just have to start the player and drag'n'drop a MIDI file on it.
This way you get a fantastic XG synth for free.

BTW, the included sound set is named as "S-YXG2006LE".

You should probably make sure that the MIDI has an XG reset at the beginning, but after the other reset messages. The S-YXG50 might be set to GM by default since it has XG/GM/GS compatibility.
