They are essentially a set of 128 instrument soundfonts plus drums soundfonts. There's many way to make soundfonts, one of the way is by live recording of the instrument note by note.

oh, I see....is there a free program out there for making soundfonts? I have vienna studio, but I have no idea how to work it.

I think Vienna Studio is the right program to create soundfont. I once learnt some other programs on Mac to create soundfont. But they seems kind of complicated...

About the sound card, I believe you need that before you can use Vienna Studio. I don't have sound blaster and the program doesn't seem to be working well for me either.
