BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL"
written by ZAKK WYLDE
published 1996 by Bellbottoms&Beer Music (BMI)
as performed on the album "BOOK OF SHADOWS" (GEFFEN-RECORDS)

The riff during the VERSE is the following. I transcribed it in sixteenths,
the 1,2,3,4 indicate the quarters, the 1,+,2,+,3,+,4,+ indicate the eighths.
The dududududu is NOT the text (duh?), it means d for downstroke and u for
upstroke. The rhythm's a little simplified to make tapping it on the computer
easier.
I play the x (like the p.m.) by lying the palm of my right hand on the
strings near the bridge.
(The ^ (hammer-on) spoils the appearance of the fourth bar a little.)

     G Em F(sus2+maj7)
e-I----------3-----3-x-3-----0-----0-I---------0-----0-0-0-----0-----0-I
b-I----------3-----3-x-3-----0-----0-I---------0-----0-0-0-----0-----0-I

     G Em * F(...) p.m. Cadd9

E-I--3---3---------------0-----------I-1-----------------------------------I
     1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
     d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u
*First you hold only the low E
string in the first fret (F)
then you 'hammer on' the other
strings by lying the index on
                                       the neck.

OK, just to make it more obvious, the full chords once again:

            ?Fsus2/
    G Em maj7? Cadd9
e---3---0---0-------0------
b---3---0---0-------1------Or however they're called...
g---0---0---2-------0------
d---0---2---3-------0------
A---2---2---3-------3------
E---3---0---1-------x------

Now the CHORUS. To be honest, I did'nt figure it really. I play the baseline
and the basic chords. The arpeggios he plays I just can't reproduce. However
this sounds right and must be good enough for now (great for playing alone!):

     G Dsus4 Cadd9 C (let ring)
e-I--3-------3---3-3-x---3-----------I-----I-----I-0---------------------I
b-I--3-------3---3-3-x---3-----------I-----I-----I-1---------------------I
g-I--0-------2---2-2-x---0-----------I--%--I--%--I-0---------------------I
d-I--0-------0---0-0-x---2-----------I-----I-----I-2---------------------I
A-I--2---2-3-------------3-----3-2-0-I-----I-----I-3---------------------I
E-I--3-------------------------------I-----I-----I-3---------------------I
     1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + repeat
     d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u

The OUTRO goes like this (now I'm rather accurate again!):

                                           Gsus4 G
e-I---------------------------I-----I-----I--3----------------------I
b-I---------------------------I-----I-----I--1---0------------------I
g-I-----0-----0-------0-----0-I--%--I--%--I--0-------0--------------I
d-I------0-----0-------0---0--I-----I-----I--0----------------------I
A-I-------0-------------0^2---I-----I-----I--2----------------------I
E-I--1-------2----3-----------I-----I-----I--3----------------------I
                                            let ring
OK, that was the rhythm guitar.
While the second guitar plays the above (Hy Fabien!), I play the harp-part
on electric guitar in my band, try it:

e-I------------------------------------I-----------------------------------I
b-I------------------------------------I-----------------------------------I
g-I------------------------------------I-----------------------------------I
d-I----------9---12~~~~~~~~~--9-10-----I---10bu12--10~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~-I
A-I------------------------------------I-----------------------------------I
E-I------------------------------------I-----------------------------------I
     1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
     d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u

e-I-------------------------------------I----------------------------------I
b-I-------------------------------------I----------------------------------I
g-I-------------------------------------I----------------------------------I
d-I----------9---12~~~~~~~~~~~~~--10--9-I--10----9-------------------------I
A-I-------------------------------------I--------------10~~~~~~~~~~~~sl.~--I
E-I-------------------------------------I----------------------------------I
     1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
     d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u d u

That's all. As usual the solo is missing. My excuse is, that I wrote my own
solopart over the eighth bars in the middle of the song and I like it even
more than Zakk's!!! (although he's still my idol)

lyrics as in the cd-booklet:
verse1
Dying to live, living to die
ain't no hellos here
nothing but goodbye
its like singing a song
that cannot be sung
its like having to end child
whats yet to have begun

chorus
hey, hey, hey, hey, now I'm lost somewhere
between heaven and hell

verse2
all that you know and all that you knew
in the end child, tell me whats it all mean to you?
dont forget just who and where you are
you can spread your wings son
but dont you spread yourself too far

For the succession of the parts listen to Zakk and the band...
I know its NOT that, but this sounds good anyway.
Correct this, I'll learn it!
