Cowboy Guitar Tablature
Band/Artist: Kid Rock
Song:Cowboy
Album: Devil without a cause

   CHORDS:
   -------
       EADGBE EADGBE
   A5 (577xxx) D (xx0232)
   G5 (355xxx) C5 (8-10-10-x-x-x)
   A (x02220) D5 (x577xx)

Great song, lots of cool guitar playing. You have to tune down
one note (half step) to play along with the cd, because he's tuned
   down to Eb.

   INTRO:
   ------
I taped this off the radio and missed the beginning, but
I think it goes like this:

MAIN-RIFF: [used in all the choruses]

   E|---------------------------------|
   B|---------------------------------|
   G|---------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------| Listen closely to the song
A|---5/7--7-7--x-5--7-7--x-x-x-x---| to get the timing right on
   E|---3/5--5-5--x-3--5-5--x-x-x-x---| this riff.

Ok, the song starts with someone saying cowboy, then you
play the MAIN-RIFF above 3 times (I think) and then this
   once:

   E|-----------------|
   B|-----------------|
   G|------------2----|
   D|------------0----|
   A|--0----3---------|
   E|-----------------|

Then in the verses you basically have two riffs,
   the A-Riff, and the D-Riff.

A-RIFF: [play this kinda very slightly palm-muted]
   -------
        A
   E|----------------------------------------------------------
   B|----------------------------------------------------------
   G|----------2-------------2------------2-----4p2-----2h4-2--
   D|------2h4-------4p2--------------2h4-----------2-2--------
   A|---0----------0-----3h4-------0----------0----------------
   E|----------------------------------------------------------

   E-----------------------------------------------0---0------|
   B-----------------------------------------------5---5------|
   G----------2-------------2-----------2------4/6---6---4p2--|
   D------2h4-------4p2------2------2h4-----------------------|
   A---0----------0-----3h4---0---0---------0-----------------|
   E----------------------------------------------------------|

   D-RIFF:
   -------
Now I can't seem to hear the D-riff properly. You basically just
use a D chord and pick some notes out of it. I do it something
   like this:

        D
   E|------2-----3-----3p2---2--------5----7---7p5---5--
   B|------3-----3-----3-----3--------7----7---7-----7--
   G|---------------------------------------------------
   D|---0------0-----------0-------0-----0---------0----
   A|---------------------------------------------------
   E|---------------------------------------------------

   E------2-----3-----3p2---2-------0h2---3---3p2---2--|
   B------3-----3-----3-----3-------3-----3---3-----3--|
   G---------------------------------------------------|
   D---0------0-----------0-------0-----0---------0----|
   A---------------------------------------------------|
   E---------------------------------------------------|

OK, I know this isn't totally correct but it's close.

   VERSE 1:
   --------
   [Play A-RIFF]
Well I'm packing up my game and I'm a head out west
Where real women come equipped with scripts and fake breasts
Find a nest in the hills chill like Flynt
Buy an old droptop find a spot to pimp

   [Play A-RIFF]
And I'm a Kid Rock it up and down your block
With a bottle of scotch and watch lots of crotch
Buy a yacht with a flag sayin' chillin' the most
Then rock that bitch up and down the coast

   [Play D-RIFF]
Give a toast to the sun, drink with the stars
Get thrown in the mix and tossed out of bars
Sift to Tijuana, I wanna roam
Find the old town chillin' fools then come back home

   [Play A-RIFF]
Start an escort service, for all the right reasons
And set up shop at the top of Four Seasons
Kid Rock and I'm the real McCoy
And I'm headin' out west sucker...because I wanna be a

CHORUS: [play MAIN-RIFF, the one you played in the INTRO]
   -------
   Cowboy baby
(With the top let back and the sunshine shining)
   Cowboy baby
(West coast chillin' with the Boone's Wine)
I wanna be a Cowboy baby
(Ridin' at night 'cause I sleep all day)
   Cowboy baby
(I can smell a pig from a mile away)

Then before you start VERSE 2, play this: [played with tremolo]

   E|----------------|
   B|----------------|
   G|-----------0----|
   D|--------2-------|
   A|---5b6----------|
   E|----------------|
         |
Make this bend real slow and easy.

   VERSE 2:
   --------
   [Play A-RIFF]
I bet you'll hear my whistle blowin' when my train rolls in
It goes (whistle) like dust in the wind
Stoned pimp, stoned freak, stoned out of my mind
I once was lost, but now I'm just blind

   [Play D-RIFF]
Palm trees and weeds, scabbed knees and rice
Get a map to the stars, find Heidi Fleiss
And if the price is right I'm gonna make my bid boy
And let Cali-for-ny-aye know why they call me a

   CHORUS: [play MAIN-RIFF]
   -------
   Cowboy baby
(With the top let back and the sunshine shining)
   Cowboy baby
(West coast chillin' with the Boone's Wine)
I wanna be a Cowboy baby
(Ridin' at night 'cause I sleep all day)
   Cowboy baby
(I can smell a pig from a mile away)

   Play this again:
   E|----------------|
   B|----------------|
   G|-----------0----|
   D|--------2-------|
   A|---5b6----------|
   E|----------------|
         |
Make this bend real slow and easy.

For the BRIDGE, you just hammer out power chords, listen to
the song to get the timing. Another guitar solos like crazy, it's
all based on the A blues scale (A minor pentatonic)

Play the power chords like this:

   RIFF 1:
       A5 C5
   E|-------------------|
   B|-------------------|
   G|-------------------|
   D|--7----7---10--10--|
   A|--7----7---10--10--|
   E|--5----5---8---8---|

   RIFF 2:
       D5
   E|-------------|
   B|-------------|
   G|--7----7-----|
   D|--7----7-----|
   A|--5----5-----|
   E|-------------|

   BRIDGE:
   -------
   [Play RIFF 1]
Yeah...Kid Rock...you can call me Tex
Rollin' sunset woman with a bottle of Becks
Seen a slimmy in a 'vette, rolled down my glass
And said, "Yeah this dick fits right in your ass"
No kiddin', gun slingin', spurs hittin' the floor
Call me Hoss, I'm the Boss, with the sauce in the horse
No remorse for the sherrif, in his eye I ain't right
I'm gonna paint his town red, and paint his wife white HUH

   [play RIFF 2]
   Cause chaos, rock like Amadeus
Find West Coast pussy for my Detroit players
Mack like mayors, ball like Lakers
They told us to leave, but bet they can't make us

   [play RIFF 1]
Why they wanna pick on me...lock me up and throw away my key
   I ain't no G, I'm just a regular failure
I ain't straight outta compton I'm straight out the trailer

   [play RIFF 2]
   Cuss like a sailor...drink like a Mick
My only words of wisdom are 'RADIO EDIT' (suck my dick)
I'm flickin' my Bic up and down that coast and
Keep on truckin' until it falls into motion

   CHORUS: [Play MAIN-RIFF]
   -------
   Cowboy
(With the top let back and the sunshine shining)
   Cowboy
(Spendin' all my time at Hollywood and Vine)
   Cowboy
(Ridin' at night 'cause I sleep all day)
   Cowboy
(I can smell a pig from a mile away)
   Cowboy
(With the top let back and the sunshine shining)
   Cowboy
(With the top let back and the sunshine shining)
   Cowboy
   (Hollywood and Vine)
